Potton is a town with plenty of history; the town suffered a devastating blow when in 1783 the Great Fire of Potton destroyed most of the town. The fire started in a clover stack in a field which is now Spencer Close, the fire took a strong hold in the town and lasted for almost a whole day, almost completely destroying the town.
