About Stotfold
Stotfold is a town within the county of Bedfordshire in England and although a small town, Stotfold has plenty to offer both residents and visitors alike. The town is home to the historic Stotfold Watermill, which stands on the River Ivel. This mill is one of four mills that are situated in Stotfold and recorded in the Domesday Book. Sadly in December 1992 a fire destroyed the mill, but today it stands proud as it has been fully restored to its former glory and was opened to the public in May 2006.
Over recent years the town of Stotfold has expanded with a number of new housing estates being developed, such as Mill View and Fairfield Park. Covering a large area, Fairfield Park is situated on the site of the old Fairfield Hospital, South of the centre of Stotfold and east of Arlesey. The old hospital building has now been converted into luxury apartments and hundreds of new houses have been built in the grounds. The construction of a further 850 homes has begun on land south of Stotfold, although this development has slowed down due to the recent recession and a finish date is unknown at present.
