Lillingstone Dayrell is a village in Buckinghamshire, in Aylesbury Vale, about three and a half miles north of Buckingham, eight miles west of Milton Keynes and five miles south of Towcester. Lillingstone Dayrell with Luffield Abbey and the neighbouring hamlet of Lillingstone Lovell are separate civil parishes within the Aylesbury Vale district.

Lillingstone Lovell and Dayrell are villages about 4 miles miles north of Buckingham in Aylesbury Vale the district of Buckinghamshire. The parish adjoins the Northamptonshire boundary and is about 5 miles south of Towcester in that county. Lillingstones are about 8 miles west of Milton Keynes. .At the time of the Domesday Book in 1086 both settlements were recorded jointly as Lillingestan though already at that time there were two manors owned respectively by the Dayrell and Lovell families.

The adoption of the Lovell name came later probably in reference to the lordship of the manor by the Lovell family line which died out in the early 14th century. Unlike its neighbour, Livingstone Lovell which was a detached portion of Oxfordshire under the control of the royal manor of Kirtlington, valued for its woodland and hunting, being part of the ancient Whittlewood Forest. It was transferred to Buckinghamshire under the Counties Act 1844.

The Church of England parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is believed to date from the 13th century but was rebuilt in the 14th century. By the middle part of the 18th century it had fallen into disrepair and was repaired and refurbished around 1777 retaining the original medieval tower.

In the parish church is the monument of Dorothy Haddon, of the Dayrell family, mother of Dr. Walter Haddon, one of the masters of requests in the reign of Queen Elizabeth, who employed him in various embassies. We are told that he was in great esteem for his eloquence and learning. Some of his works are extant, among which is a volume of Latin Poems. He was the author of numerous epitaphs on eminent persons of his time: that of his mother, in Lillingstone church, is not a very favourable specimen of his poetical talents. In this church are several memorials of the Dayrells, the most ancient is the tomb of Paul Dayrell, who died in 1491; the latest, that of Richard Dayrell esq. who died in 1801, being the thirty-first male heir of the family. Mr. Dayrell is patron of the rectory
