About Maldon
Maldon is a town situated in the county of Essex and is located on the Blackwater estuary. In 1970 a charter was signed between Maldon and its twinned Dutch town of Cuijk to seal the twinning of the two towns. Maldon is well known throughout England and the rest of the world as the main modern-day centre for Thames Sailing barges which the last cargo vessels to rely on sail power. Today they are used for pleasure and there are only about 15 vessels remaining. If you are in Malden and looking for some excellent company, why not book one of our amazing Maldon escorts. Maldon High Street is home to a number of historic listed buildings such as Moot Hall and All Saints Church both are set in between a number of local shops to explore.
Maldon town holds an annual "Taxi Day", this is when London Black Cabs make themselves available to drive many physically disabled children from London to Maldon to enjoy a fun day full of activities and a meal, this event dates back to 1952. A London Cab Driver at that time made a visit to the Elizabeth Fry Special School in Plaistow, when he saw the young patients there he felt that he wanted to do something very special for them, so he wrote to each of Essex's seaside towns asking if an outing could be arranged for these children. Maldon was the only town to agree to help; as a result of this Taxi Day is an unbroken tradition.
There are two other interesting events in Maldon: Every New Year's Day a charitable mud race is held when competitors race across the Blackwater estuary at low tide, then along the bank of the estuary and back through the water. The other event is held on the first two Thursdays in December and this is known as Victorian Evening, the local people dress up in Victorian clothing and run stalls selling traditional food and handmade items and all the local shops and restaurants stay open until late in order to allow the public to shop for much longer than usual.
