About Ashwell
Ashwell is a small village in the English county of Hertfordshire. It is roughly 45 miles from the City of London. One of its closest neighbors is Baldock, situated just 4 miles away. Like many of the small villages in Hertfordshire, Ashwell is also a civil parish. The parish council runs the majority of the town events and make most of the decisions.
The structures in Ashwell add a rich historical value to the village. The buildings feature intricate architectural details and some even date back to the 14th century. One of the most defining structures within the area is the 14th century parish church. Here residents and visitors can have a firsthand experience, with the infamous bubonic plague, which killed one third of Europes population. They would not be able to get this from ordinary textbook teachings. The churchs tower is one of the tallest erections in the village and stands 176 feet high. The peek is adorned with an octagonal shaped lantern, which has brought light to even the darkest days of the village.
There is a vast array of architectural styles within the village which are built from basic combinations. A home can either be made of Tudor, Carolean, or Georgian brick. The next combination addresses rooftops which can either be thatched or tiled. Finally the faades of the walls can be plastered or timbered. These combinations are unique to Ashwell. With all the intricate design, its a great thing Ashwell remains well preserved. The town has a few familiar notable faces; Mike Bushell a BBC sports presenter, and Pete Babes Wilson is a musician in the Arthur the Stoat band.
Although the village has a historical atmosphere the venues maintain a modern feel. For this Ashwell has been granted a variety of patrons for its restaurants and bars.
