About Ayot St Peter
Ayot St. Peter is a very small village in Hertfordshire, England managing a population of only 233. There are various other Ayots in the same location including Ayot St. Lawrence and Ayot St. Albans. In 1782 the Reverend Ralph Freeman was named the Rector and as part of his first decision, he demolished the small church. He replaced it with a whimsical octagonal shaped church he himself designed. Not only was the work created from his mind, but it was created from his pocket as well. Reverend Ralph Freeman paid all expenses from his own wallet. But in 1862 this church like its predecessor, was replaced; this time by a more traditional Norman church. Unfortunately just 12 years after its erection, it was destroyed by lightning. Locals thought it would be best to rebuild a smaller church closer to the village and design it modestly. This new church has available seating for 200 visitors.
Today the village has a few farm homes and cottages displaced from each other over 1,100 acres of land. The locals welcome visitors from all over the country.
