Bedmond is famous as the birthplace of Nicholas Breakspear who was the only Englishman ever to be Pope. He was born in 1100AD at Bedmond Farm and his youth was spent in the farms and villages in the vicinity of Bedmond. Nicholas Breakspears father (Robert Breakspear) was a monk at St Albans Abbey but when Nicholas attempted to gain entry to the Abbey as a monk his application was declined. As a result of this rejection Nicholas Breakspear travelled to Europe and eventually became a monk in France. In 1154AD he achieved his appointment as Pope Adrian IV, sadly he died just 5 years later. There is a school in the area called Nicholas Breakspear, named after this once famous resident of Bedmond.
Bedmond may be a quiet village but behind the doors of some of the houses in the area is a networking organisation called ChilliCake.com, is this organisation which is competition for the TV series Come Dine or Dinner Date?, it could be. This is a wonderful way to socialise and make friends, you can join this organisation either on your own or as a couple, which allows you to select just the right format for you. So if you enjoy dining and want to experience something just a little different, then Bedmond in Hertfordshire has just what you are looking for.
