Brookmans Park is a village located in the County of Hertfordshire in England.it is referred to officially as Brookmans Park. The actual development of Brookmans Park is owned to the Gaussen family. In 1786 this family settled here and created the entire estate. During 1816 when the effects of Waterloo were beginning to have an effect on the local agriculture, many villages were left helpless and in turn shaped their own demise. Brookmans Park however, expanded their estate and created jobs for its residents fighting back against what seemed like the inevitable demise of the village. This victory came to a screeching halt when the Gaussen family left for a holiday. The agricultural market declined, Scotts took over struggling farms, and the Manor the family has so carefully built was burned to the ground and surviving sections of the estate were sold.
Brookmans was back on its feet by1923 and BBC located its transmitter here. It even served as a safe haven for families being evacuated due to WWII.
Brookmans Park is most famous for its ties to the age old nursery rhyme; Little Miss Muffet. It has been said that the rhyme originated from the mind of a poet who wrote it for the daughter of a doctor. Her name was Patience Moffat, and like the rhyme explains, she was in fact eating her curds and whey, when along came a spider, and sat down beside her, scaring Miss Muffet away.
