Cheshunt is one of the closest towns in Hertfordshire to central London, located just 14 miles from Charing Cross. Cheshunt was originally a settlement located on the main Roman road from London to the north. The town was the home of the first passenger carrying monorail and the first railway line in Hertfordshire.

The River Lee passes through Cheshunt and this was used to transport flowers and crops to London for sale in the markets. The well known fungicide named “Cheshunt Compound” was developed at the Cheshunt Research Station and this is still manufactured today.
At the end of the Second World War a substantial area of the River Lee flood plain was used for the extraction of Sand and gravel. Once the extraction was complete it left large areas in which to create the now mature lakes. This area now forms part of the 1,000 acres of the River Lee Country Park which is very popular with birdwatchers, naturalists and anglers.
Cheshunt was once home to a number of notable people in the music industry, probably the most famous is singer Cliff Richard as well as UFO drummer Andy Parker, Gary Prosser who was the singer in the 90’s Epic Pop Indie band and it was also home to the band Unit 4 + 2, their song Concrete and Clay was top of the UK charts in 1964.
