Chipperfield has been around for centuries. However, it was not established until the recent 19th century. The village originated as a part of Kings Langley, it served as just another stretch of land used for housing. In 1832 the population of the village grew, and was then large enough to command the erection of two religious places of worship; Angelican and Baptist. By 1848 Chipperfield was a village on its own, not governed by Kings Langley. After the Second World War, the village began to erect many building and housing to accommodate returning soldiers and their new families. The Baby Boom generation had displaced some residents and new housing additions had to be implemented to reinstate them into the community. Since the 1980s the development began to halt and the village remains much as it did then.
The village has a rather haunting history to it. In the 1900s residents were shaken into incredible fear as they began to report seeing paranormal activity in the woods. At first they reported simple happenings which could not be explained. It then transformed into the residents witnessing humanoid entities walking through the woods during the night hours. As residents became reluctant to venture into the woods, the legends of the haunted woods began to spring and trade diminished. After one of the advisors of the monarch George V encountered one of these beings during his travels, George V had enough, and ordered an exorcism to be conducted in the woods. He ordered the priest to declare the spirits not haunt the land in his presence for 100 years. Whether or not an exorcism was ever preformed is unknown. However history has recorded that the sightings all stopped in October 1911.
The village may have had a rather scary past, but that time has since gone and travel to and from the area is stronger than ever.
