About Markyate
Markyate is a village which is situated in the north west of the county of Hertfordshire, but sits very close to the borders of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Through history Markyate has had a number of names that it was known by; two of these were Markyate Street and Mergyate. Over the years the county boundaries have continually changed and since it was first founded it has been considered to be part of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Markyate historically was a rural and agricultural area but today it is a dormitory village for Luton and its surrounding areas. Markyate is very close to the M1 motorway and it is located on Watling Street, which is the Roman road known today as the A5 and with such easy access by road, our stunning Markyate escorts spend a great deal of time in the area, discreetly visiting not only regular clients but also devoted clients too. Diamond Escorts excellent reputation has grown over the last few years, and so has its client base and this is why, even in the recession that the country is experiencing at the moment, you will not see us disappearing any time soon.
The A5, as it is now, is situated between St Albans and Dunstable and in the past it was an important coaching stop for the many travellers on the highway from London to Birmingham and at one time it was home to more than forty inns, scattered along its main road. The famous Pickford transport service company, which began in the village of Markyate, used the one and only road out of the village which was appropriately named Pickford Road.
The village was originally two adjacent hamlets, namely Markyate and Humbershoe; these two hamlets were separated by the road to Berkhamstead. With gradual expansion in the area, Markyate and Humbershoe became the current village of Markyate. The majority of the growth since the 1950s has been as a result of in-filling the new housing into the gap between the old A5 high street and the new A5 Markyate by-pass.
Markyate has been used as a film location for two films of notoriety, The Wicked Lady which was a Gainsborough film which was based on the life of Lady Katherine Ferrers who was the wife of a major Landowner in the area of Markyate Cell. The other film was The Dirty Dozen which was filmed in and around the village of Markyate.
Even though a small village there are plenty of places of interest to visit in its surrounding area, such as Whipsnade Zoo, Whipsnade Tree Cathedral which is an historic building just over the border in Bedfordshire, Ashridge which is a beautiful country estate and parklands, rich in history, these are just three venues, of many, where the residents and visitors of Markyate can spend their leisure time.
