About Lingfield
The village of Lingfield has a variety of public houses and restaurants including the Old Cage, built in 1592 and named after the nearby village lock-up. Other pubs include The Greyhound, The Star and The Hare and Hounds (which is slightly out of the village, across Lingfield Common). Lingfield is a large village, slightly isolated, in the south-east of Surrey. The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul is the only large one of the Perpendicular style in Surrey. On the Haxted Road towards Edenbridge, is Haxsted Mill. The double-fronted mill was built in two halves, the first around 1580 and the other in 1794. It has been fully restored and is a unique combination of a working watermill and a museum of mill machinery used for water-power. There is also a picture gallery and bistro and pleasant walks along the River Eden.
Lingfield is most famous for its racecourse with race days every month, including turf, National Hunt, all-weather racing and harness racing. Lingfield Park is situated in the heart of a beautiful 450 acre estate in Surrey, on the border with Sussex and Kent, and dates back to the 19th century. The area was first established and recorded as an area of recreation as early as the 15th century.

In June 1987 the owners constructed a golf club across the open fields and through the adjacent woodlands. The initial intention had been to also include conference facilities, a motel, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts. However, these plans were not deemed acceptable. In 2002/2003 the back straight on the turf course was improved and, combined with a £5.5m investment in the main grandstand and other visitors' facilities in 2004, further helped to re-position Lingfield Park as a busy, popular, well managed, scenic, and profitable racecourse.
In 2007, planning permission was received for a 116-bedroom 4-star hotel, leisure club, swimming pool, conference and meeting rooms, offices and a new golf academy overlooking the racecourse in the footprint of the old Silks and Marley grandstands. Construction commenced in May 2008 and, in the same year, a franchise agreement was reached with Marriott hotels to create the Lingfield Park Marriot Hotel and Country Club. The hotel opened on schedule in May 2010.
The existing championship standard golf club, which has hosted the Surrey Open, is incorporated within the hotel, the 18-hole course open to both members and visitors.
Arena Leisure plc, which also owns six other racecourses in the UK, has managed and funded the £29m development which also included a major redesign of the recently opened stables complex, stable staff lodge and entrance building.
