The Barbican Estate is a mainly residential area in the City of London, which is densely packed with commerce and finance. The Barbican Complex is adjacent to, the Barbican Arts Centre, Museum of London, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the Barbican public library, a great place to meet with one of our fantastic
London escorts. With the exception of Milton Court, which contained a fire station, medical facilities and some flats, the complex has been Grade II listed in its entirety
The residential estate consists of 13 terrace blocks, located around the lake and green squares within the complex. The main structures rise for up to seven floors above a podium level, which links all the facilities in the Barbican, providing a pedestrian route above street level. There are some maisonettes built into the podium structure. Vehicular access has been taken out of the complex, within the estate; there is however some car parking availability at the periphery of the estate. Public car parks are located within the Barbican centre.
The estate also contains three of London's tallest residential towers, boasting a massive 42 storeys and 123 metres high. The top two or three floors of each block comprise three penthouse flats, the height of luxurious living in the City.
Cromwell Tower, named after Oliver Cromwell, Shakespeare Tower, named after William Shakespeare, and Lauderdale Tower, named after the Earls of Lauderdale were all completed during the early to mid 1970’s. Once the tallest residential towers in Central London, they have now been surpassed by the Pan Peninsula development located near to the Canary Wharf complex.
The Barbican Estate also contains the Barbican Centre used as an arts, drama and business venue. The Barbican public library, the City of London School for Girls, the Museum of London, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama can all be found within the Barbican complex.
