Eric Estorick (1913-93) was a prominent American sociologist and writer who began his collection of works of art when he came to live in England post the Second World War. A native American born in Brooklyn, Estorick attended the New York University during the early 1930s. It was there that he found The Gallery of Living Art, located in the Washington Square College, a extraordinary collection containing work of genius by Picasso, Léger, Miró and Matisse these pieces enthused him to become a devote collector himself.
The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art opened in London in late 1990’s. Now housed in a Grade II listed Georgian building which was aesthetically restored with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Museum plays host to six specialist Modern Art galleries, a fantastic art library, a beautifully appointed cafe and bookshop. The Collection is world renowned for its nucleus of Futurist works and figurative art and sculpture dating from late 19th to the mid 20th Centuries.
The Museum features paintings by some of Futurism’s main central characters and includes works by Balla, Boccioni, Russolo and Soffici as well as magnificent pieces by Giorgio de Chirico, Amedeo Modigliani, and Marino Marini. Since 2003, a programme of significant refurbishment has rejuvenated the customer facing internal areas of the theatre. Work has also taken place outside; with the newly pedestrianised area the surroundings have given the Peacock a modern-day profile, fully praiseworthy of the Sadler's Wells name.

The Wenlock Arms was originally built in 1835, and finally opened its doors to the general public in January 1836.
