Seven Sisters comes under the London Borough of Haringey and its postcode district is N15. It is situated in the Tottenham area, North London and sits at the east end of the Seven Sisters Road which runs from Tottenham High Road and joins the A1 in Holloway.
The Seven Sisters were originally Elm trees planted in a circle situated on Page Green and in 1840 they were believed to be about 500 years old. In 1886 the (7) Hibbert sisters replanted the trees a little further to the east. On the 31st December 1955 Seven Lombardy Poplars were again replanted, this time by the (7) Basten sisters of North London. It is thought that the site was an early sacred grove and also that the name Page Green is taken from Pagans Green and that it may of been a place where people were burnt at the stake during the times of the famous witch hunts.
In 1833 The Seven Sisters Road was constructed and this provided a link across the countryside from Tottenham to Holloway.
Today Seven Sisters and South Tottenham together make the London postal district of N15. It is noted to be the most ethnically diverse area in the European Union. There are substantial communities of African, Afro-Caribbean, Somalian, Jewish, Turkish, Irish, Portuguese, Polish and Colombian.
