The development of Regent Street began in 1811 and was completed in 1825. This development was one of the first planned developments of London with an aim to impose order on the medieval streets layouts. At the time of the Great Fire of London in 1666, Sir Christopher Wren drew up plans for just such a rebuild but they never came to fruition and it was not until John Nash devised his plans in 1811 did work begin to structure London as we know it today.

As time passed fashions in shopping changed and the original buildings were no longer suitable for their purpose and by the end of the 19th century the small and old fashioned buildings were restricting trade. During the Edwardian times, department stores appeared such as Dickens and Jones, Garrard and Co, Swan and Edgar, Hamleys and Liberty and Co. Regent Street as we know it today is the result of all this redevelopment.

All of Regent Street, except two blocks at the northern end is owned by the Crown Estate and since the new millennium they have started work on a major redevelopment programme for Regent Street and some of its smaller side streets. Some of the early 20th century offices with their many corridors and small offices are being replaced, the new designs will provide modern and flexible open plan accommodation. Many of the smaller shops are being replaced by larger ones. Reconstruction of the Quadrant at the southern end of the street, close to Piccadilly will provide not only new shops and offices but in addition it will have a five star hotel and a small number of flats.

Although Regent Street is experiencing all these changes, you can still find many historic buildings in the area, such as The Cafe Royal which is located at 68 Regent Street. This became an institution for Londons high society and today although it closed in 2008, it is a grade 2 listed building and still stands proud in the area.

Below you will find a list of venues where your Regent Street escort will be more than happy to visit and offer you that very special memorable evening of exceptional enjoyment which we are certain you will remember for a very long time.
