Most of the residential areas of Shepherds Bush are located to the west of the Green stretching along either side of Uxbridge Road and Goldhawk Road towards the southwest and down to Askew Road in the west. The majority of the housing in these areas are three or four storey terraced houses which date from the late 19th century, although catering for today’s trends in the housing market the majority of these houses have been divided into small flats. In close proximity to the White City Stadium can be found the White City Estate, this was originally developed in the 1930s and further extended in the early 1950s shortly after the Second World War. Some street names have been inspired by places and personalities from the Boer War.
