It was given special protection from the enemy bombers during the Second World War and until recently visitors noted that they had experienced a pleasant warm smell, a bit like a brewery, from miles away, which of course was the smell of the production of the breakfast cereal. Sadly the factory was closed in 2008 and only the "Shredded Wheat" sign remained, but then that was painted over.
