The Wenlock Arms
The Wenlock Arms was originally built in 1835, and finally opened its doors to the general public in January 1836. The Pub is located within easy walking distance between the Angel and Old Street London Underground Tube stations. During the onset of London Bombing raids during the Second World War the Pub managed to remain intact and came through without being damaged. The Pub has won many accolades from its industry and from the friendly locals who frequent the hostelry. The Wenlock has a unique menu when it comes to food and is famed for its Sandwedges, which as they suggest are more than enough to satisfy the hardiest of appetites. There is always an array of real ales to sample, some of the finest from around the UK. Friday night is Jazz night with the resident trio who concoct many and varies sets very much a crowd pleaser. Unfortunately the original club owners and creators had to accept the inevitable and went into receivership. The venue was then purchased by the Mean Fiddler and re-invented as a Jazz club, steadfastly retaining its roots, but opening up new avenues for the then more popular music trends of Soul, Funk, World, Dance and Hip Hop which now had a stronghold on the capital.
The Jazz Café offers a great variation of Live music and is complimented by a fantastic restaurant, a great place to dine, attentive and helpful staff, an atmosphere which is memorable and an easily accessed location, making it one of London’s hot-spot entertainment venues.
